Ah, pilot season. I know from experience that this time of year starts out with such hope and promise. Then it seems to go one of two ways… you’re either super busy going out on auditions, or super anxious wondering why you’re not going out on auditions. Then, suddenly it’s all over until next year leaving some of us with a little “Pilot Season Hangover”.
Are you feeling a little let down this year? Here are four suggestions I’ve used to beat those blues:
1. Take a Vacation
Since episodic season doesn’t start until August, this is the perfect time to plan a little get-away. Of course there’s no guarantee that as soon as you book a flight your agent won’t call (it’s like they have radar!), but even if traveling isn’t in your budget this year, treat yourself to a stay-cation. Pack a picnic and go to the park, take advantage of a free night at the museum, or try out a restaurant in a different neighborhood. Sometimes we get so focused on our careers we forget that life is meant to be enjoyed!
2. Spruce Up Your Marketing Materials
The hiatus between pilot season and episodic season is the perfect time to re-evaluate your marketing materials. Just like spring cleaning can often give you a much-needed boost, new headshots, updating your resume, and even changing up your website can help you reset and refocus for August.
3. Renew Your Passion
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get so busy I forget why I fell in love with acting in the first place. Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with your love of the craft. Take a class, meditate, or work on new material on your own just for fun!
4. Try Something Completely New
Did you always want to try stand-up, learn a new language, or become a mentor? Push yourself to explore outside your comfort zone and try something different. It’s a great way to re-energize and who knows, you may surprise yourself with a hidden talent!
