Be Confident and Calm at Auditions – Part 3

Today is the day of your audition! How do you want to feel? My guess is you want to feel prepared and confident so you can truly take advantage of this great opportunity. But sometimes, that can be easier said than done.

Since I started using my 3 Part Audition Checklist, I walk into every audition feeling calm and confident. If I can do it, you can, too! I’m delighted to share my personal audition checklist to help you feel empowered.

The last two weeks I covered what to do when you get the audition, and what to do the night before. Be sure to check them out if you missed them.

The Day Of

1. Meditate

If you already have a morning meditation practice, awesome! If you don’t, then try doing some deep breathing for a minute or two before getting out of bed. While you’re breathing, set an intention for the day. Maybe something like, “I feel confident and powerful.”

2. Breakfast

It’s important to fuel your body, so make sure you eat something!

3. Move Your Body

Do your regular workout routine, or if time is limited, stretch and do some calisthenics for a few minutes. Your body is your instrument, so warm it up and get the blood flowing!

4. Dress with Intention

While you’re getting ready, tap into your acting work. Think about your character’s intentions, backstory, and the moment before.

5. Run Your Lines

Right before you leave, run through your lines so they’re fresh in your mind.

6. Commute with Imagination

On your way to the audition, tap into your character again. This time, imagine the space where the scene takes place. Think about what time of day it is. What just happened before the scene starts. Let your imagination run.

7. Breathe

In the waiting room, take deep, cleansing breaths. This will help you remain grounded and keep nerves from overwhelming your work.

8. Have Fun

You’re in the room! Breathe, do your thing, and have fun!

9. Check In

After the audition, check in with yourself to see how you feel it went. Let yourself have all the feels (good or bad) for no more than 10 minutes.

10. Let It Go

On your way to the subway or your car, throw your sides away in a trashcan. Feel yourself let go of any attachment to the outcome. This was a big one for me, and has made me feel so much happier in the long run.

11. Treat Yourself

You did it! Yay, you! Plan on a special treat as a reward for all your hard work and discipline. It can be anything from a tasty snack to a walk in the park, to meeting a friend for coffee, or even a bubble bath that evening. Whatever makes you feel nurtured and taken care of.
