As a professional actor, you already know a headshot and resume are necessary to promote your career.
But there are so many other ways to market yourself. Here are four crucial marketing tools that go beyond the headshot. Take a look and see what you might be missing!
You didn’t think I’d leave this one out, did you? 🙂 An actor website has become an industry standard – just like a headshot/resume. But even if you don’t have the budget to build a website right now, you can take the first step and register your domain name before someone else snags it.
2. Email Marketing
Why send postcards when you can send a monthly email? My favorite app is MailChimp, which is free for up to 2,000 subscribers. Super easy and green, too! Just make sure to ask for permission before adding anyone to your list. Spamming is never sexy, and it ain’t good marketing, either!
3. Social Media
Social media is free marketing. Let me type that again… Free. Marketing. When used strategically, it’s a great tool to build your online credibility and relationships. But be careful not to fall down the rabbit hole. These sites are made for you to kill time, so be mindful of how you’re spending yours.
Okay, so not all industry contacts give out their email addresses, or they’re not on social media. That’s okay! The good old postcard is an awesome way to keep in touch every month. But don’t get a bunch printed out ahead of time. Print them as needed at places like SendOutCards or AmazingMail. It will save you loads of time as well as the pain of seeing a sad stack of out-of-date postcards sitting in your closet, unsent.
And there you have it – four marketing tools that go beyond the headshot!
Your turn. Which of these could you add to your routine? Give it a try and be consistent with your actions. It’s time to go beyond the headshot!
And if you’re feeling up for it – let me know what marketing tools you love to use!
