How Can I Build My Mailing List?

A couple of weeks ago I asked if you guys had any burning questions, and was blown away by all the responses! So I'm thrilled to begin my first Ask Amy post!

Today's question comes from Debbie. She asked, "How do I create a useful and cheap landing page with pop-ups to help build my mailing list?"

Hey, Debbie - thanks for your question!

Today’s question comes from Debbie. She asked, “How do I create a useful and cheap landing page with pop-ups to help build my mailing list?”

Hey, Debbie – thanks for your question!

There are different definitions of “landing page” floating out there, so before I answer let’s make sure we’re talking about the same thing. Some people think a landing page is any page on the internet on which you can, well, land. 🙂

But for our purposes, let’s think of a landing page in a marketing sense. In this case, a landing page is any page on the web that has a form and exists to collect a visitor’s email address for your mailing list.

The good news is, if you already have a website, you can turn any page into a landing page! Here are two of the easiest tools I’ve discovered:

MailChimp

MailChimp is an excellent email marketing system and I recommend it to all of my clients who want to build up their mailing lists. It’s super easy to use with tons of tutorials, and is free for up to 2,000 subscribers. Use the quick form embedding feature (including an awesome pop-up form option) to create a simple and effective landing page.

SumoMe

I just started using SumoMe, and I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed. It’s a suite of tools that helps your website get more traffic and subscribers. You can create multiple pop-up forms that integrate with many email marketing systems – including MailChimp. They have some professional looking templates and all kinds of cool options. In addition, you can set up social sharing for your blog posts and you can easily view all your stats in the dashboard.

Now let me ask all my peeps out there – what is your favorite tool to build your mailing list? Please share your recommendations below!
