When a casting director Googles you, what will they find?
Let’s face it – just having any old website isn’t enough. Your site is often your introduction to decision makers in the industry. Why not grab the opportunity to create a winning first impression!
Here are my top 3 tips to create a website that stands out:
1. Showcase Your Cast-ability
What are the types of roles in which you’re usually cast? Are you the quirky best friend, the preppy soccer mom, or the snarky attorney? Make sure your photos, colors, and fonts make sense with how you’re perceived in the industry right now. But don’t forget to include a little bit of where you’d like to take your career and add a dream role or two in the mix. Ideally, your site should not only showcase your career right now, and also where you’d like it to go.
2. Let Your Personality Shine
People visit your website to learn more about you – don’t let them down! One way to accomplish this is to write your bio in the first person, and in a conversational tone. Maybe add some of your favorites or a Top Ten list, so you’re not just talking about your acting life. Show us the well-rounded person you are. People want to work with who they know, like, and trust, so let them start to get to know and like you with a well written and strategic bio.
3. Show You’re A Pro
A regularly updated website is one of the easiest ways to gain credibility, which builds trust. Post to your latest news section or blog at least once a month and show us the busy actor you are. Don’t worry – you don’t have to post a novel. Just a few lines will do.
And there you have it! I hope this inspires you to create or update your website and make a great first impression.
